No Terry Butcher in this squad? Can't believe that this legend isn't part of the team. Neil Franklin was maybe a better defender but IMO he never had such impact in the NT as Butcher had..

I think Butcher could replace Adams, this two defenders and Jack Charlton are IMHO more or less on the same level.

Well tbh I see all of them above Franklin regarding NT importance. Franklin in England AS is as strange as for example Cantona in France AS. But as it seems that Charruan has left the site this discussion won't lead to anything as he's the one who could could change the topic...

Mmmm, I guess this team needs a right side back back-up.

I really fail to see why Dixie Dean deserves to be in the first team. Of course he’s arguably the best English striker of all time, but he scored 4 competitive goals for England, Geoff Hurst scored 3 in the World Cup final alone...
Same with Duncan Edwards, who is only there because he died. His 2 years as an England player were nowhere near as important as Alan Ball’s 10 years or Beckham’s 15 years. Maybe if Alan Ball has died just after he won the World Cup at 21 years old, he would be in this team...

Rather than Ball or Becks, i'd add Stiles to have a proper defensive midfielder.

I'd be happy with Stiles too, probably the best choice for squad balance, although his England career was short too so there probably wouldn't be any point in replacing Edwards with him.
David Platt should be in midfielders too, while he sometimes played as an SS for England he was first and foremost a midfielder.
