Hey guys, as we had the same thread four years ago, I thought it would be a good idea to have one for the 2018 WC as well What teams do you consider as favorites on the cup? Who will be the stars of the tournament? Russia opened the tournament with a 5:0 against Saudi Arabia. Beautiful goals by Cheryshev, especially the second one

Shame that they have nothing to show for it, Sweden more than deserved at least a point, especially when they should have had an obvious penalty in the first half.
We may never know what could have followed if the ref gave the penalty in that moment...Maybe Germany could have destroyed Sweden instead, who knows?
Either way, congrats to Kane after scoring a typical Ronaldo hattrick

It was a penalty but only because of that they didn't lose the game. IMO Neuer's world class save against Berg's header shortly before the break was the turning point of the game: if it would have been a goal, Sweden would have won the game for sure.. Btw, regarding the penalty: seems that karma still exists, even if took 60 years to happen
Missed penalty, an elbow hit that many normal players would have got sent off for and some people still call this guy the GOAT Hopefully Suarez and Cavani kick that Portugal side out, they already had way too much luck in 2016 EC..
I don’t see the big deal with Portugal winning Euro 2016, it’s everyone else’s fault if they couldn’t beat them. Sure, they got a little bit lucky, but it’s impossible to win without a bit of luck, and when you defend as well as Portugal did that tournament, you make your own luck. Not every team has the attacking talent of Germany or Spain, they can’t blow away teams 5-0, so they played to their strengths. Someone as bad as Eder scoring the winner after Ronaldo had been injured was a great story, don’t know why everybody was so angry about them winning...
I mean, Denmark didn’t even qualify for Euro 92, but nobody cares about that now.

Ask that to anyone in Germany. Denmark (who won the final with two irregular goals) should have never been allowed to play in that tournament, Yugoslavia qualified and they should have been allowed to play there.. Regarding Portugal: a shit team that only qualified because the UEFA decided to blow up the tournament size, is surely no deserved champion

I'm not a big believer in luck, but it's true that you may need it once in a while.
Portugal won it fair with what they had, just like the greeks did in 2004, that's it and i doubt that UEFA changed the format just to coincidentally benefit them.. It was nice that we had a new European Champion in the end.
