INFO:
Although sustaining a chronic and painful knee injury, and having trouble to stay fit, Edu Marangon was a very technically gifted player. When in good shape, Edu was more than capable of outshining his teammates, controlling the left side of the pitch by delivering silk-smooth and accurate passes, creating quick 1-2 plays with wingers, stepping close to the box to deliver powerful curling shots and being able to strike dead balls with class and technique.
After leaving Portuguesa, his first club, Edu had a brief spell in Europe, playing for Torino and Porto. Next, he returned to Brazil to play for Flamengo, but with little success, he moved to Santos. Then, he spent 1991-92 playing for Palmeiras, leaving a great mark in the club. Then, Edu moved to Japan to play for Yokohama Flügels, where he had the best two years of his career.
For Flügels, Edu played 67 official matches and scored 18 goals, his best career average. He was regularly seen among the team’s starting eleven, and he became the oficial penalty and free kick taker for the club. In the 1993 season, Edu helped the team to win the Emperor’s Cup, scoring twice to defeat Kashima Antlers 6 – 2. In 1994, Edu became famous for scoring two back-to-back long distance free kicks, the first one against Júbilo Iwata (02/04/1994), a fantastic dipping shot from the right side of the pitch, and the second against Shonan Bellmare (09/04/1994), a “trivela” shot from the right, almost 40m away from the goal.

Great initiative to make this legend.

But why are you doing him from Yokohama Flugels? His prime was before that I think. Edu from Portuguesa would be a good option.

What do you think?

Hi, welcome here, you should keep the correct layout for player sets.

I'm a big fan of J-League's early years, and I wanted to create some players from this era, and Edu performed in a very interesting role while playing in Japan. Besides, the user "lutchi65" already created a thread with Edu's stats as a Portuguesa player.

I'm sorry, what did I do wrong? Should I reduce the size of the image?

This one seems off. He's a guy who flopped in bigger teams like Torino and Porto.
Considering other sets, was he in Japan, for example a passer as good as Bruno Conti or Wesley Sneijder?

I might have overrated his stats, but his passing was top level for Flügels. He constantly produced good vertical passes, and was a great crosser and deep passer. He did not have Sneijder's passing flair, though.

What do you think about this?

Short Pass Accuracy: 88 --> 84
Short Pass Speed: 79 --> 77
Long Pass Accuracy: 88 --> 85
Long Pass Speed: 82 --> 80

I never really saw him playing maybe a part of some footage during his time at Torino. Therefore, I can't say if the changes are correct or not. I simply pointed out that his passing ability looked too high. You say that he constantly produced great passes but don't forget the level of the league he was playing in and the fact he wasn't that constant in bigger leagues.

That's a valid point, but I'm not keen on considering his spells at Portugal and Italy because it doesn't really impact his time in Japan, and as Edu himself states (JLeague YT Channel Interview) that one of his best phases was when he played in japanese football, and he went there believing that it would be a new opportunity to regain his form, already troubled by many injuries.

That's not what I meant. I'm not comparing his spells. He didn't do well in bigger teams or with Brazil but only in Japan.
That means that he wasn't good enough to play in a better league than the J.League.

That's ok, but you do know that football does not only revolve around europe, right? I don't believe the idea of players that were not good enough for the bigger leagues can't be good players, but that's a personal matter. I rest my case.

Of course they can be good somewhere else. However, if he really was that great in terms of technical and passing skills, I believe that bigger teams may have had more faith in him even though he wasn't a master of consistency. Take Álvaro Recoba for example. He's one of the less consistent players I have ever seen at Inter but he could be so good and decisive when he wanted, that he stayed there for eight consecutive seasons. Can we compare the level of skills needed in Serie A to the one needed in Japan? And this comes from someone who loves not only Japanese football but Asian football in general.
Then, I could mention Dragan Stojković. He was so good even in Japan that he was a regular starter for Yugoslavia at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, 2000 UEFA Euro and when he retired in 2001 as a Nagoya Grampus player, he was still gaining international call-ups.

In this case, I have to agree with Interista.

A good example was how Zico "make it rains" with "only one leg" in Japanese League until 1994.

Zico couldnt even jump anymore and even so made all the difference there.

I know Zico is Zico, but he had even retired playing before a knee surgery when he began playing in Japan.
