During the 13-14 season, Filipe proved himself to be a crucial player to the Colchoneros, dominating the left side of the pitch and providing quality defensive coverage to the team alongside Miranda, Godín and Juanfran, helping Atlético de Madrid to acheive great results during the season. Filipe performed a very interesting role, always aware of opponent wingers and capable of striking well-timed tackles and disarms. Midway through 2014, he was sold to Chelsea, appearing most as a substitute. He started few matches, as Azpilicueta was the team's main left back, although, he had a good spell for the blues, managing to be a consistent player and even being capable of scoring a beautiful free kick against Derby County. In 2015, he went back to Atlético de Madrid.
For the Seleção, Filipe Luís was called up 4 years after his first cap, playing against England and Italy, being part of the team's 23 men roster for the Confederations Cup, being more regularly capped during 2014 and 2015 (6 and 11 caps, respectively).

After coming back to ATM, Filipe continued being an important piece of the colchoneros' defence as the team's starting left back. He reached the peak of his physical form, delivering quality performances for the Seleção as a starter during the WC 2018 Qualifiers. He was called up by Tite for the WC 2018, becoming a starter as Marcelo sustained an injury against Serbia, but struggled with his form, suffering intense pain from a broken Fibula that wasn't fully healed, being incapable of showing his best plays during the WC knockout stage.

In 2019, Filipe left ATM in july, arriving at Rio de Janeiro to play for CR Flamengo, after a good display at the 2019 Copa América. He was quickly put in rotation at "Mengão", adapting very quickly and providing much needed technique and covering that leveled up Flamengo's playing style, with well timed passes, accurate crossing to provide assists for Gabigol and Bruno Henrique, easily becoming the most dominant left back of Brasileirão 2019. With Filipe's tactical prowess and leadership, Jorge Jesus was able to correct the team's defensive flaws and create a new dynamic and fast paced playstyle, which leaded the team to win the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Libertadores. Filipe performs in a very mature and special role, covering the left side of the pitch almost perfectly, with excellent positioning, orchestrating defensive formations and being very much aware of the moves performed by the opposing side.
