Attack MindedInfoAfter the famous season of the legendary La Masia's "Class 87", most of these 16 years old boys were promoted to Barça U-18 team including Leo. And after very few games the Argentine proved that he was too good for this level and was picked to represent the U-19 team. Later in November 2003 during an international break, the 1st team had a friendly match against Porto and the entire squad was departed except for Luis Enrique, Luis Garcia, Xavi and Marquez. Which was a good opportunity for Frank Rijkaard to take a look at youngsters and reserves players. Messi was the youngest to be recommended to the Dutch manager.
His 1st team appearance lead him to get another promotion and play for Barça C at the 3rd division. And it didn't take him much to be dominant even against the senior players, which led him to get one more promotion and play for the B team.
2003/04 season was a very pivotal season for Messi. He was floating between 4 different dressing rooms allowing him to expose his talent to every person at the club. And it really paid well to the extent that he was the only youngster to go with the first team (full squad first team) to their pre-season tour in Japan during summer 2004, where he scored his 1st unofficial goal against Kashima Anters. Here are the highlights of this rare match:
