Infos

Francis Lee was born in Westhoughton on 29/04/1944. Lee joined City from Bolton Wanderers in 1967 for a then record transfer fee of £60,000. Since 1969/1970, Franny was the club's top scorer for five consecutive seasons. During his time with the club, City won the First Division, FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup, Charity Shield (twice) and the Second Division. From his very first appearance, Lee became a huge favorite with the fans at Maine Road. They loved his direct style of play, his fierce competitive spirit and perhaps most of all, his ability to shoot at goal from any angle and from any distance. During the season 1971/1972, Lee set a British record for number of goals scored from penalty spots, with 15 of his 35 goals. Many of the penalties resulted from fouls on Lee, earning him the nickname Lee Won Pen or Lee One Pen

Lee also made 27 caps and represented England at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, then becoming the first English player ever to receive a card in a World Cup.
