Wang Zhenjie was a goalkeeper. His professional career began in 1979 and he played only for Bayi, where he retired in 1994. He was accurate in judgment, quick in reaction and outstanding in saving penalties. He was one of the best goalkeepers of China in 1980s.
In 1981, Wang was selected into the Chinese Hope Football Team and visited Italy. In 1982, Wang won the title of "Chinese Master of Sports". In 1985, Wang was selected into the Chinese National Football Team to participate in the 1986 World Cup qualifications, and won the Chinese Golden Ball Award in that Year.
