Nguyễn Cao Cường was born October 27, 1954 in Hanoi, Vietnam. He is widely acknowledged to have been one of the Vietnamese greatest-ever footballer in all-times. In 1970, Cao Cường joined the The Cong when he was 16 years old, playing in the youth team. Three years later, due to his outstanding performance in the youth team, he was specially added to the 1st Public Team, selected to compete for the Public Sports team in China, the German Democratic Republic, Hungary. In 1982, he was selected for the Vietnam Youth team to play in the Soviet Union and Hungary. He won the Vietnam football championship four times, once won the title of top scorer in the 1982-1983 season with 22 goals and twice was elected as the typical Vietnamese athlete in 1981 and 1983. He was gifted with 4 excellent qualities: fast, strong, durable and skillful. He usually dribbled past the defenders with high speed before scoring. He also had remarkable shot power and accuracy on both legs, thus scoring many goals.
