INFO:

He was a skillful, fast, dribbling left winger, with dominance of both profiles and scoring ability. He is one of the great strikers in the history of Peruvian football.

He was a devilish gambler who shone as one of the best players in South America in the 50s and early 60s. He was the younger brother of a Peruvian soccer idol in the 40s, Carlos Gómez Sánchez, but over time he ended up building an even more prestigious career than this. Generally left winger, he could play perfectly for both profiles with a lot of speed and scoring ability thanks to a powerful well-patented shot. With Alianza Lima he formed "El Nuevo Rodillo Negro" that in the mid-50s conquered a two-time championship next to talents such as Félix Castillo, Guillermo Barbadillo and Valeriano López.

From 1952 to 1958 he is documented 89 goals in 104 games, in 1959, he was transferred to River Plate as a starter in that team. Then he had an outstanding step by Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, club to which he arrived in 1961 and in which he left a very deep mark forming a historic team that came to beat 8 to 1 to Racing Club, the reigning champion, and that in 1962 left a very pleasant impression despite not winning the championship, the campaign in which the nickname of "El Lobo" arises.

With the Peruvian national football team he played four editions of the Copa América, he was the second scorer of the 1955 edition, in total he played 26 official matches scoring 14 goals, 10 of them in the Copa América ranking among the 20 top scorers in the history of the continental tournament.

He also made popular a play baptized as "El Latigazo", which consisted of a run from the left end to the edge of the area, closing to the center and making with the right a powerful shot that frequently ended in goal.

His ability and mastery of both profiles allowed "Huaqui" Gómez Sánchez to play easily on both sides (right and left), being a starter and key piece in all the teams he played.
