Liu Guobin was a goalkeeper. His career began in 1953 in Beijing, where he won the best goalkeeper award in China at that time. He then transferred to the Central Sport Institute in 1955. The following year, he joined First Machinery Industry, where he remained until his retirement in 1962 due to injury.
Regarded as one of the best Chinese goalkeepers in the 1950s, Liu Guobin was gifted with good elevation and catching ability as he was a master of diving and making flying saves.
