He was selected for the First Machinery Industry F.C. in 1948 due to his outstanding skills of football. In October 1955, the Myanmar national football team and FC Zenit Leningrad visited China. The First Machinery Industry F.C. cooperated with the Central Institute of Physical Education to form a team. The team first defeated the Myanmar National Team 9:1 on October 18 of that year, and then drew 2:2 with FC Zenit, a powerful team of the former Soviet Union, on October 30. Among the 11 athletes participating in these two competitions, Li Changping’s performance was one of the most remarkable. He was rewarded the "Chinese Master of Sports" award in 1958.
