Defence-MindedINFO:Gastón Monzón is an Argentine former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (13/07/1987), Monzón made his professional debut in Huracán, in 2006, under the guidance of Antonio Mohamed in the Primera B Nacional. After promotion, in the 2008 Torneo Apertura, he debuted in the First Division under the leadership of Ángel Cappa, taking the place of a goalkeeper with a long career, Alejandro Limia. The following year, in the 2009 Clausura, in the remembered and mythical team of "Los Ángeles de Cappa", he completely established himself as a starter. In that tournament, he became runner-up after losing on the last date against the champion, Vélez. In this match, Monzón saved a penalty from Hernán Rodrigo López in the first half, when the score was tied at zero; He later found himself at the center of the controversy when Maximiliano Moralez scored the winning goal for the Liniers team, after a rebound caused by an alleged foul by Joaquín Larrivey on the goalkeeper.
Just two years later, and with Monzón still as the starting goalkeeper, Huracán finished the Clausura 2011 in last place and tied with Gimnasia de La Plata for 18th place in the relegation table. To define the second direct relegation of the season, both teams had to face each other in a playoff match. Monzón did not participate in this match due to his expulsion on the last date of the championship and Huracán was defeated 2-0, thus losing the category. Monzón continued with the club upon their return to B Nacional, but the poor results and the goalkeeper's repeated errors made him the target of the fans' annoyance. In November 2011, after a bad game against Patronato, he decided to temporarily leave the club. In May 2012, precisely in a match against Patronato for the second round of the tournament, Monzón returned to the starting team, replacing the expelled Lucas Calviño. He was part of the Huracán team that won the 2014 Argentine Cup but did not start in it. After leaving C.A. Huracán in 2014, Monzón would play for San Marcos de Arica, in Chile, and later for Tristán Suárez, Deportivo Armenio, Excursionistas, General Lamadrid, San Martín de Burzaco, Midland (all lower league clubs) and would finally retire in Dock Sud, at the age of 35.
