Defence-MindedINFO:Walter Kannemann is an Argentinian footballer who plays as a defender. Born in Concepción del Uruguay, Entre Ríos (14/03/1991), Kannemann made his professional debut in 2010 in a 2-2 draw between San Lorenzo and Colón. Although his performance was not bad, Walter was relegated to the substitute bench for some dates and finally concluded the year playing in the reserve team. The year 2011 found him in the same way, playing for an entire semester in reserve, integrating the first-team substitute bench only on a few occasions. Finally in 2012, in the most complicated year regarding the relegation situation for the club, Kannemann was going to return to San Lorenzo's starting lineup after more than a year of having debuted in the first division. On date 12 of Clausura 2012, he would play 90 minutes against Arsenal de Sarandí, in San Lorenzo's 2-0 victory. He would be a substitute in the following four games and finally (after José Luis Palomino's injury), Walter would be part of the starting 11 for the rest of the tournament. That same season, Walter Kannemann was going to have the first great challenge of his career, being part of the team that would face San Martín de San Juan on the last date of the championship. If San Lorenzo lost or tied, they would be relegated to the Second Division. 10 minutes into the second half, Walter would score with a header after a cross from Leandro Romagnoli, the second goal of the game (and his first as a professional) to make the game 2-1 and save his team from relegation. His great performance in the final games of the 2012 Clausura gave Kannemann greater opportunities in the first team, playing the majority of the matches of the 2012 Torneo Inicial. The beginning of the 2013 Torneo Inicial brought new opportunities for Kannemann, who established himself as the undisputed starter on the left side, and, with great performances, would become the champion of that tournament. For the 2014 Torneo Final and with Edgardo Bauza as the new manager, Kannemann would not have the opportunity to stand out as he had been doing and lost his position in the hands of Emmanuel Mas. However, he regained his starting spot in a new position, leaving the left side to play center-back. In his last stage in San Lorenzo, he won the 2014 Copa Libertadores and played in the Club World Cup in Morocco, where the team finished second after losing the final to Real Madrid 2-0.
After the Club World Cup, Kannemann's arrival at Atlas FC in Mexico was announced, with the hope of facing the Primera División and the Copa Libertadores of that year in a good way. Kannemann's time at Atlas was rather discreet although he did not have bad performances. In June 2016 he would be transferred to Grêmio FBPA where he would spend the best years of his football career. In Brazil, Kannemann established himself as one of the best - if not the best - center-backs in both Americas. With the Brazilian club he played in the Copa Libertadores in 2017, which they would emerge victorious, he won the 2018 Recopa Sudamericana against C.A. Independiente and that same year he would be named the best South American defender of the year, in addition to being part of the ideal team of the Copa Libertadores and from South America.
