INFO:
Héctor Daniel Villalba is a Paraguayan footballer who plays as a right-winger, second striker, or side-midfielder. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina (07/26/1994) to a Paraguayan family, Villalba lived his entire childhood and adolescence in the infamous Villa 1-11-14. He arrived at San Lorenzo when he was just 10 years old and completed all the youth divisions at the club, until on August 18, 2012, he made his debut in the Argentine First Division, against Estudiantes de La Plata, entering 37 minutes into the second half. He scored his first goal with the San Lorenzo shirt on April 13, 2013, after a great run of almost 90 meters against Racing on matchday 9 of the Torneo Final. In 2013, Villalba managed to become champion of the Torneo Inicial, being, together with Ignacio Piatti and Ángel Correa, the only three players who would play all the games of that tournament. His first international goal was scored on April 9, 2014, against Botafogo of Brazil in the last game of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. On August 13, 2014, he won his second title with San Lorenzo, the prestigious Copa Libertadores, being one of the main stars of the azulgrana team. On July 13, 2016, he was transferred for $2.500.000 to Atlanta United, a new franchise that would enter the MLS starting in 2017, so he was transferred to Tijuana in Mexico so as not to lose activity, although in the Mexican club he would hardly even play. On September 4, 2018, he became a Paraguayan citizen to be able to play for the national team. He debuted with the Paraguay National Team on November 20, 2018, in a friendly against South Africa that ended 1-1. In February 2020 he was transferred to Club Libertad in Paraguay and to this day he continues to play there.

Villalba began his career as a second striker or as an advanced midfielder. During his years at San Lorenzo, he was considered the fastest player in Argentine football: Villalba possessed good dribbling and ball control, which combined with his explosive speed made him one of the best players on the team. During much of the 2013 Torneo Inicial of which San Lorenzo emerged champion, he had to play as a center forward (an unnatural position for him) due to Martín Cauteruccio's injury and the lack of players to fill that position. Despite the notorious difficulties he had when playing in a position that was not his, Villalba discovered how to take advantage of his explosive burst to exploit the off-side line, scoring several goals in this way. For the rest of his career at San Lorenzo, he played as a second striker or as a side midfielder, particularly on the right, taking advantage of his great speed on the wing.

Statistics updated as of January 2024.

San Lorenzo (2012 - 2016) - 118 games, 16 goals
Atlanta United (2016 - 2020) - 96 games, 22 goals
↪ Club Tijuana (2016) - 3 games, 0 goals
Club Libertad (2020 - present) - 124 games, 28 goals
