INFO:
Gonzalo Verón is an Argentinian footballer who plays as a side-midfielder, second striker, center-forward, or winger. Born in Moreno, Buenos Aires (24/12/1989), Verón made his pro debut in Club Sportivo Italiano, which at that time was in the Primera B Metropolitana, the third division of Argentine football in 2009. That same year, Italiano would achieve promotion to B Nacional, the second division of Argentine football. He played until 2012 with Italiano, where he played a total of 66 games and scored 6 goals between three divisions. Verón would be one of the best players in the category, but he could not prevent his team from relegating to the Primera C, the fourth division of Argentine football. In 2012, and with Italiano recently relegated, he took a resounding leap in quality since coach Ricardo Caruso Lombardi hired him to play for San Lorenzo de Almagro, of the First Division of Argentina. San Lorenzo bought from Sportivo Italiano 90% of the transfer at 700.000 pesos and the Azzurri kept the remaining 10% for future sales. On October 16, 2013, in the final of the Argentine Cup against Arsenal, the forward suffered a torn ligament that kept him off the field for almost seven months. Despite his injury, he managed to play eight of the 19 games in the 2013 Torneo Inicial, a tournament in which San Lorenzo de Almagro would become champion. Upon recovering from his injury, he helped San Lorenzo win its first Copa Libertadores title by appearing in both games of the final against Club Nacional, which the ciclón won by an aggregate score of 2-1. He also started in both games that San Lorenzo played in the 2014 Club World Cup. For the 2014 Transition Tournament, Verón played 15 games (13 as a starter) and scored 2 goals.
On August 4, 2015, he was transferred to New York Red Bull of the MLS for 2.2 million dollars. Five days later, he would make his debut for the New York club, entering from the substitute bench, in the 2-0 victory against the New York City FC. On August 15, he scored his first goal for the club in a 3-0 victory against Toronto FC. The former San Lorenzo was barely able to start in 15 of his 69 games played with the Red Bulls (including regular season and playoffs), scoring 11 goals and registering 9 assists in the process. At the end of the 2017 campaign, New York Red Bulls declined the option to renew the contract. After terminating his contract with New York Red Bulls, the player signed a contract with Club Atlético Independiente for three and a half years, facing 2018. Verón initiated a million-dollar lawsuit against Independiente (having played 14 games) when he "felt fired" since the player had paid part of the termination of the contract with New York. Currently the million-dollar lawsuit, after the presentation of an extraordinary appeal by the Avellaneda club, went to the Supreme Court of Justice (May 2023). After this stint in Argentine football, in mid-2020 he signed for Club Sol de América, from Paraguay. He has since played for S.D. Aucas, from Ecuador, and Universidad San Martín de Porres, from Peru.
