Carlos Sánchez is a Uruguayan footballer who plays as a midfielder and winger. Born in Montevideo (06/12/1984), he started his professional career at Liverpool F.C. in 2003 and stayed in the club until 2009, when Argentine team Godoy Cruz bought him. At the Mendoza club, he would quickly become one of the most sought-after players in the country. In 2011, he was bought by the Argentine giant River Plate for $1.5M in their struggle to return to the First Division after their first (and only) relegation in their history. In 2013, he was loaned to Club Puebla in Mexico, and after a good season, he was brought back by River, where he became a crucial pillar of the team that won the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Libertadores. In 2016, he signed with C.F. Monterrey to compete in the Clausura Tournament. In 2018, he moved to Brazil to play for Santos F.C., where he became the most prominent face of the Paulista club during a very difficult time for them: he stayed at the peixe for 5 seasons without winning any titles. In 2023, he signed with the Uruguayan giant C.A. Peñarol for a year, delivering good performances, and at the beginning of 2024, at 39 years old, he signed with the second-division club Uruguay Montevideo.

Carlos Sánchez was an international player for the Uruguayan national football team, making his debut in 2014 in a 3-3 draw against Costa Rica where he was named the man of the match. For Uruguay, Sánchez played in the 2015 and 2016 Copa América tournaments, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. During his second spell at River Plate, Sánchez established himself as one of the best players on the continent: in 2014, he was named the second-best player in South America, behind his teammate Teófilo Gutiérrez, and the following year he was named South American Footballer of the Year; that same year, he was one of the 50 players shortlisted for the Ballon D'or, an unprecedented achievement for a player based in the continent. Other individual awards include 3 appearances in the Ideal Team of America (2 as a starter and 1 as a substitute), 1 appearance in the Ideal Team of the Copa Libertadores, and the distinction of MVP in the 2015 Copa Libertadores final.
