INFO:
Germán Cano is an Argentine footballer who plays as a center-forward. Born in Lomas de Zamora, Lanús (02/01/1988), Cano completed his entire youth career at Lanús. He joined the professional team thanks to coaches Ramón Cabrero and Luis Zubeldía, making his professional debut on February 17, 2008, in Lanús' 0-1 loss to Huracán. After not getting much playing time in that tournament he was loaned to Chacarita Juniors in the Argentine football league. He later had stints with Colón de Santa Fe, Deportivo Pereira, and Club Nacional. His first spell at Independiente Medellín began in 2012 and lasted three seasons, finishing as the top scorer in the Colombian football league in two of them, until he was sold to Pachuca for $3 million. In Mexico, he suffered a torn ACL that kept him off the field for a long time. In the meantime, he signed with Club León of Liga MX, and in 2018, he returned to Independiente Medellín where he made history for the club, once again becoming the top scorer in two Colombian football tournaments and ultimately being declared the all-time leading scorer for DIM, with 129 goals. In 2020, he signed with Vasco da Gama in what would be his first experience in Brazilian football, standing out as one of the country's best forwards despite the Carioca club's poor performance, which eventually got relegated. He was then sold to Fluminense in 2022, where he broke all sorts of scoring records and became the best player on the continent.

Germán Cano made history for the club by breaking all sorts of records in his first season: he won the Campeonato Carioca, defeating arch-rivals Flamengo in the final with three of his goals; he was crowned the top scorer of the Campeonato Brasileiro, becoming only the second foreigner in history to achieve this feat (after Pedro Rocha in 1971), scoring 26 goals (a historic record since the tournament has been played with 20 teams, surpassing Gabigol's 25 goals in 2019); he also became the top scorer of the Copa do Brasil, making him the third player in history to be the top scorer of both national tournaments in the same year (after Gabigol in 2018 and Hulk in 2021) and the first foreigner to do so; furthermore, he was the top scorer for Brazilian clubs that season, scoring 44 goals (a 21st-century record in Brazil, surpassing Neymar's 43 goals in 2012 and Gabigol's 43 goals in 2019), and was only second worldwide (just behind Mbappé). Lastly, he broke the record for most goals in a season for Fluminense in the 21st century, with his 44 goals. The following year, he was crowned the top scorer and best player of the 2023 Copa Libertadores with 13 goals and was awarded the South American Footballer of the Year, in addition to being named in the Ideal Team of America and the Copa Libertadores.
