INFO:
Juan Fernando Quintero is a Colombian footballer who plays as an advanced midfielder. Born in Medellín, Antioquia (18/01/1993), Juanfer began his professional career in 2009 with Envigado F.C., a club globally recognized for its prolific youth academy. In 2012, after helping Envigado maintain its category, he was signed by the Colombian giant Atlético Nacional. After excellent performances, he was loaned to Delfino Pescara in the Italian Serie A, where he began to be considered "the new promise" of Colombian football. For the 2013-14 season, he signed with FC Porto, and although he didn't play many minutes in his first season, he participated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup for his national team, being one of the revelations. In the following years, Porto loaned him to Stade Rennais in 2015, to DIM in 2017, and finally to River Plate in 2018 with a purchase option of €3.500.000. His great performances with the "millionaire" team earned him a recall to the Colombian national football team, where he played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. On December 9, he was crowned champion of the 2018 Copa Libertadores and was the standout player in the final against Boca Juniors. Coming off the bench in the second half, Juan Fernando scored the 2-1 goal in extra time and provided the assist for the definitive 3-1. After his outstanding performance in 2018, River decided to exercise the €3.5M purchase option from Porto, thus retaining the Colombian's services. In 2020, after an ACL injury, he was sold to Shenzhen FC in China, but by 2022 he returned to River Plate. On January 14, 2023, he was officially announced as a new player for Junior de Barranquilla, and by that same year, Racing Club purchased his full rights for $3.6M, once again becoming one of the best players in Argentina. Despite his excellent technical qualities, Juanfer is considered an extremely inconsistent player: his tumultuous off-field life, his weight issues, and his lack of personal care led him to experience many ups and downs throughout his career, although when he is in form, he is usually considered one of the best players on the continent.
