INFO : Algisto Lorenzato became known by the name of the city in São Paulo where he was born: Batatais. Signed by Fluminense in 1935, the goalkeeper lived in Laranjeiras during the beginning of the era of professionalism in Brazilian football. In addition, he was part of the squad that starred in the club's Golden Years. His success with Fluminense consolidated Batatais as one of the greatest goalkeepers of the tricolor and contributed to his call-up to the 1938 World Cup, when the Brazilian team finished in 3rd place, Brazil's best campaign to date. Batatais won the Campeonato Carioca (Carioca Championships) of 1936/37/38/40/41 and the Torneio Municipal (1938), in addition to several other trophies. Among his more than 300 matches for the team, the "Fla-Flu da Lagoa" stands out, played in 1941, where he, despite having a dislocated collarbone after a clash with Flamengo striker Pirillo, in which he stepped on his arm, managed to make several saves and secure the title for Fluminense. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest goalkeepers Brazil has ever had.
