Defence Minded INFO: It began in the floodplain football, in 1947, in the village Cristal. He came to stay at the Internacional only in 50, when the Club was about to set up a great team successor to the legendary Roll Compressor of the 40's. In his first year of Inter, Vergara joined the Juveniles. There he won the Campeonato Gaúcho of the category. In that period he had as goalkeeper trainer no less than Ivo Winck, the archer of the Roller Compressor.
Then there is Vergara's first foray into the Roll Compressor team. Since he came to Inter as a kid, there were two goalkeepers in front of him. Ivo Winck, of the aspirants and Everton of the pros. Winck fell ill then Vergara was related to starting against Inter de Santa Maria, away from home. At the last minute, Everton was unable to play and coach Teté called Vergara to take on the number 1 shirt. The national team had already said that Internacional had a good goalkeeper, who knew how to get under the crossbar and get out of the goal. The premiere as a professional could not be more important, in a Gre-Nal in the field of Renner. "Everything happened at the last minute. The coach called me to play and moments before, still in the locker room, when I went to put on my boot I was shaking. From that moment on, I was hired as the goalkeeper of the International, "he says. Vergara was the goalkeeper of the historic win over arch-rival Grêmio by 6 x 2 at the inauguration of his new Olympic Stadium on September 26, 1954.
