INFO

Alfred Aston was one of the greatest French wingers and the best in Europe at the time. He was short outside right with abundance of tricks, unpredictable changes of direction, extremly agile and good scorer, very good crosser as well. With the introduction of professional football in France (1932), he moved from his native amateur club in the Oise, namely, Red Star Paris which had by then already won the French Cup four times. In 1938 he moved to the big local rivals Racing Club to continue to play first class may, for Red Star had to re-compete if only for a year, the course in the Division 2. During the season 1940/41, he returned to Red Star, which had become the champion with his squadron in German-occupied northern part of France, and with this in 1942, won the French Cup, for which he contributed in the final against FC Sète to score. In 1946 he was again in the Cup finals, but lost his Red Star 2:4 against Lille OSC. After signing with Aston SCO Angers, in 1947 but went back to Paris and in the Division 1, where he starred with Stade Français Paris yet again at the top. Between March 1934 and May 1946 a total of 31 times played Alfred in the Aston Equipe Tricolore (28 games for Red Star, three for racing), scoring five goals. Aston was also appointed as the only Frenchman in the continental European selection that could conquer England in 1938 (including Stanley Matthews) 2-1. His last international match (1946), incidentally, was also a 2-1 victory over England, where he met again on Matthews and Billy Wright. Alfred died in 2003.
