INFO

Lorenzo Buffon is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation, and as one of Italy's greatest ever goalkeepers. Alongside goalkeeper Lev Yashin, he was chosen to represent the FIFA All-Star squad during the 1960s. He had excellent positioning on the line, good shot stopper with quick reflexes, very strong physically, although made mistakes with ball catching. Although he was a fairly tall and physically strong keeper, he was less effective at coming off his line to collect crosses, and performed better between the posts. Despite his reputation as a generally solid and world-class keeper, he was also occasionally criticised throughout his career for being inconsistent, and for his mindset, as well as for letting his mentality affect his performances at times. Buffon started his career at a young age at AC Milan. Here he quickly became first-choice goalkeeper and was able to win his second season in 1950/51 the Scudetto. As a result, he was at the gate of the Milan Canal in the 1950s, where were the three Swedish exceptional artist Gunnar Gren, Gunnar Nordahl and Nils Liedholm to the service provider. This trio should get the result by the name of Gre-No-Li celebrity. This team won the Italian championship in the seasons 1954/55, 1956/57 and 1958/59. From the season 1956/57 was not Buffon the undisputed No. 1 in goal for Milan. Due to fluctuations in the form of substitute goalkeeper Soldan came almost as frequently used as Buffon. For the season 1959/60 Buffon moved to Genoa. This season was not successful, because at the end of the Genoese occupied the 18th and last place in Serie A, making the club relegated to Serie B. Buffon therefore returned the following season returned to Milan, this time to Inter Milan where he could then guard for three seasons the gate. For 1963/64 Buffon moved to Fiorentina, where he was just the goalkeeper and only one was used before he finished his career at the end of the season. On 9 November 1958 was the first time Buffon summoned for a game the Azzurri in this game is split Italy and France (with Just Fontaine) to a 2-2 draw. Buffon was able to hold to as the Azzurri goalkeeper, he was also the result of long-time captain of the Italian national team. He was careful, even the World Cup qualifying match on 15 October 1961 against Israel, the gate of the Italian variety. Surprisingly, the hosts went 2-0 goal lead and only two goals by Mario Corso in the final minutes (87th and 90th minute) could be the tide turned. And this despite the well-known players such as Cesare Maldini, Giovanni Trapattoni, Bruno Mora, Jose Altafini and Omar Sivori. His career experienced a major setback during the football World Cup in Chile in 1962. Buffon was careful in the group matches against Germany (0-0) and Switzerland (3-0) and the gate was on 2 June in the "scandal" game against World Cup hosts Chile Carlo Mattrel represented. The third goalkeeper Enrico Albertosi remained in the South American World Cup days without use. After a disappointing World Cup, he lost his place in the root formation of the national team, and subsequently he was rarely used at Inter.
