INFO:
Inder Singh is a former centre forward and right winger. He played for Leaders Jalandhar Club from 1962 to 1974 and JCT from 1974 to 1985, retiring at 42 years. He was an international player from 1962 to 1975, scoring a total of 9 goals for India, taking part to the 1964 AFC Asian Cup, 1966 Asian Games and four Merdeka Tournaments. He was included in the 1967 and 1968 Asian All Stars XI, and won the 1969 Arjuna Award.
Gifted with great attacking prowess, Singh is one of the most prolific strikers in the history of Indian football. Thanks to his speed, he could make quick turns to beat the defenders before delivering an accurate sudden shot − this ability is still told in the folklore of Indian football. Also, he possessed stamina to move from a deeper position, from where he passed the ball to a teammate before receiving it back with a through pass and shoot on goal. According to the experts, he had a marvellous ability to protect the ball from his marker. Sudhir Karmakar − arguably the best Indian defender of his era − described Singh as follows: « he had blistering pace and quick turning skills with the ball. He wasn't the most technically gifted striker but he had a lethal combination of speed and power ». Singh himself believes that he scored at least 500 goals throughout his career. It may be true though because when he was in good condition, he usually scored half of his team's goals. In 1974, for example, Singh scored 23 of the 46 JCT's goals. If he really scored that much, he would've scored even more if his career didn't have many ups and downs caused by many injuries that he suffered since his early years.
