INFO:

Dobromir Zhechev is a Bulgarian football player and coach. Honored Master of Sports of the NRB (1965). The only Bulgarian footballer participant in 4 world cups. He was very versatile and combative player, known for his sharp marking of Pele on World Cup 1966. He was good in midfield and attack, and often scored too. But his usual position was a sweeper, and there he was best, including his surprising attacks. Moved to more frontal position was desperate attempt to patch up holes – and left the defense weak as a result. Zhechev had solid technique and passing skills so he could without any problem play in midfield, ha possessed also solid pace and shot and was excellent in well timed tackles. Zhechev was born in Sofia in 1942. He played for Spartak from 1959 till 1968 making a total of 216 games and 7 goals. After that he moved on to play for Levski until his retirement in 1975. With Spartak he won Bulgarian Cup in 1968 and with Levski Bulgarian league in 1970 and 1974, as well as Bulgarian Cup in 1970 and 1971. In total he appeared in 369 games and scored 20 goals in Bulgarian top division. In European Cups he took part in 14 games and scored 3 goals. For Bulgarian NT he collected 73 caps and scored 2 goals, one of them on World Cup 1970 against Morrocco. Zhechev is a part of world elite with taking part on 4 World Cups, in 1962, 1966, 1970 and in 1974 although he didn't play in 1974. He made his debut for NT on 16/06/1961 in Helsinki against Finland (2-0). His last match for NT was on 01/06/1974 in Sofia against England (0-1). After his retirement from active playing Zhechev works as a coach. He coached Levski from 1981-1983 and 1988/1989 and many other clubs like Haskovo, Belasitsa Lokomotiv (Gorna Oryahovitsa) River, Botev (Vratsa), Akademik (Svishtov ).
