Great technique and first touch, wide range of passing (with both feet and with an outside foot), especially liked to send a weighted pass and acted often as a hole player going up for a goal. One of few Lobanovskyi's choices outside of Dynamo Kiev players' pool for the National Team, Minaev especially impressed him with his endurance throughout the special scientific practices.

Pupil of the Moscow "Spartak - He played four seasons for the first team (1972-1975).
