I've been watching lots of late '90s Australia matches, and I have to say that this set does not look much like the Alex Tobin I saw.

Although his interceptions and clearances seemed amateurish at times, he was actually a decent all-around defender. In addition to that, I'd say he knew how to deliver accurate long passes, and that he was a great team player.

If I were to update this set, here's what I'd change:
Spoiler: show
Set era: 1989-1993 --> 1994-1997

Position: CB | CWP - Optional (no SB position)

Age: 24-28 Years --> 28-31 Years

DEF: 80 --> 81
BAL: 89 --> 87
STA: 80 --> 77
TS: 72 --> 71
ACC: 74 --> 70
RES: 81 --> 80
DS: 72 --> 66
SPA: 68 --> 75
SPS: 70 -->73
LPA: 67 --> 78
SA: 63 --> 60
SP: 82 --> 81
ST: 63 --> 61
CUR: 69 --> 64
JUM: 80 --> 77
MEN: 85 --> 81
AGG: 68 --> 66
TW: 78 --> 88

COND/FIT: 6 --> 7
CONS: NA --> 6

FK Style: 1
Dribbling Style: 1
PK Style: 1

Special Abilities: D-Line Control (No Sliding/No Covering)

By the way, the picture is from 97, from the match against Iran.

88 TMW seems a bit too high, I’d reserve those numbers for defenders that were much more involved in the build up play or were elite organisers of the defence. It’s higher than Nesta or Bergomi for example, two players who always had excellent tactical awareness. TMW is actually one of the biggest factors in how “intelligent” a player is in-game, and is quite a significant attribute for CBs as it seems to aid positioning (in relation to where your teammates are).

Of course I’ve never actually seen Tobin play, I just thought 88 looked very high, it’s almost in Maldini territory and I highly doubt any Australian defender could replicate his tactical awareness without the ball and link-up play with the ball.

Understood. Comparing Tobin and other defenders, I think I'll give him something between 82-84.

So yeah, I was rewatching some early '90s matches just for the kicks, and one particular moment caught my eye while I watched the shootout against Canada.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcQXF89 ... 6soccerman

7:38 min. Tobin blasts a pk into the net with his right foot. That was quite unexpected, as he was clearly left-footed.

Should I upgrade his WFA because of that? I couldn't find much info on it, so maybe that pk was a one off situation, I dunno.

It's a shame that PES does not let the player switch foot in a dead ball situation.

Nah, if it was clearly lefty, then leave it as it is.

Updated.

I reviewed his footage, and it turns out he was a righty all this time, but with a very high usage of his left foot. I've been looking into his earlier matches with the NT and he only takes dead balls with his right foot, but as he played mainly as a left CB, his left foot was used all the time. At first it was hard to notice cuz he barely took set pieces after 1993 (at least according to the footage available).

LF/BS --> RF/BS
WFA 4 --> 6
WFF 3 --> 7
