INFO:Lawrence was a goalkeeper. He spent almost his entire career at Liverpool, making 390 appearances from 1962 to 1971. He retired in 1974 after three seasons at Tranmere Rovers. He capped for Scotland in 3 occasions. Considered at his time one of the finest keepers in the game, Lawrence was consistent, stocky built, strong, brave, reliable, fearless. He was regarded as one of the first true sweeper-keepers as his coach Bill Shankly requested him not to play within six yards but to be on the eighteen yard line so that he would kick the ball away if it had gone through the halfway line like a sort of stopper. He didn't possess a remarkable jump, yet he was fine in the air. His successor, the legendary Ray Clemence, considered him the best one-on-one keeper around. In fact, Lawrence often used to come off his goal, bring the opponent down, hit him if he pushed past. He rarely had bad moments as he showed an unorthodox but effective style of play, deflecting shots while lying parallel with his goal-line, and diving with perfect timing.
