INFO:

Supposed to be new Franz Beckenbauer, but heavy injury stopped Holger Hieronymus's career at the age of only 25. "Hiero" was elegant sweper with good vision and technique, very mobile and effective when going forward, he played as midfielder also. After his youth in 1880 and TuS Hamburg FC St. Pauli in 1979, he joined local rivals Hamburger SV. In the Bundesliga, he played 121 times from 1979 to 1984 for the Hamburger SV. With HSV it was 1982 and 1983 German champion, was in 1982 at the final of the UEFA Cup and won the 1983 European Champions Cup (1-0 against Juventus Turin).

In the German national team he played in 1981 and 1982 a total of three times and was at the World Cup in 1982 at the Vice-world champion teams, did not, however, in Spain used. After a severe injury from a foul by Fritz Walter, Holger had his playing career prematurely ended in 1984. With less than fifteen minutes left on the clock, Hieronymus received a career-killing injury. A cruciate ligament rupture synchronized with a deltoid ligament rupture and, together with, a caused menisci and knee cartilage damage forced him to retire in 1985, over a year after that incident. At the time he finally abandoned the hope of recovery, merely 26 years of age, the talented sweeper had played in 121 Bundesliga matches (7 goals) for Hamburger SV.

From June 1998 to 31 August 2002 Holger was sporting director at Hamburg and in 2001 he took over for two games and the post of interim head coach. Since 1 February 2005 he is CEO of the German Football League. He is the successor of Heribert Bruchhagen. On 16 April 2010 Holger suffered at his home in Frankfurt am Main, a brain haemorrhage and was subsequently treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital. Five weeks later, he began with the early rehabilitation.
