Consider to be one of the most prolific goalscorers in the history of African football. The Egyptian has scored 305 goals in his career. Which makes him Egypt's historical topscorer with 69 international goals.

A textbook number 9, a predatory striker and a lethal finisher who always played around the area trying to hunt any half chance to put the ball in the back of the net. Despite his relatively short stature, his was very hard to stop in the air due to his positioning, heading accuracy and acrobatic efforts. Also as a part of his evolution, Hossam Hassan started to get more involved in the build-up play and evolved as a "Post player" while approaching his 30s due to his ability to play with his back to goal, his intelligence and first touch.

He Played most of his career in Al Ahly, and few late seasons with Zamalek during early 21st century. Also he had a short spell in Europe. The most iconic impact he had there was scoring 4 goals in a single Europa league match against Celtic with Neuchâtel Xamax.

Hossam has been described by a lot of his former teammates as the most influential player they ever played with due to his winning spirit, which reflects a lot on the amount of titles he won. In club level: he is a 14 times Egyptian league champion, 5 times Egyptian cup champion, 2 times CAF Champions League champion, one CAF super cup winner.

On the international level, he won 3 AFCONs with Egypt (1986, 1998, 2006) only one title behind Ahmed Hassan and Essam El Hadary. He scored 7 goals in 1998 edition and won the golden boot.
