Edmundo was one of the most talented, memorable and temperamental forwards in Brazilian football in the 1990s, known as "The Animal" for his explosiveness on and off the field, both for his disconcerting dribbles, countless goals and irreverence, as well for his fights with other players, fans and lively nightlife. Revealed by Vasco, he first shone with intensity at Palmeiras, where he was a key player in the club's return to prominence with important titles, gaining the São Paulo State Championships, Brazilian Championships of 1993 and 1994, in the beginning of "Palmeiras' Parmalat Era". He lived perhaps his most emblematic phase at Vasco in 1997, when he made history by being the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship with 29 goals in 28 games, establishing one of the greatest individual performances of the points-based era; and making Vasco da Gama the champion of that yerar. In the same year he was also elected the best player of the Brazilian Championship, gaining the

Placar Magazine... At the time between comparisions of him with Ronaldo were being drawn, to the point that until this day some fans say that Edmundo should at least be named of the prize of FIFA's Best Player. Edmundo played for Seleção Brasileira from 1992 to 2000, but his best in 1997 and 1998, where he was part of the team that won Copa América 97 and the Vice-Championship in the World Cup 1998, although with limited participation in both competitions.
In the final stretch of his career, Edmundo had notable stints at Palmeiras and Vasco in the mid-late 2000s that, although more discreet technically, were full of symbolism, leadership and identification with the fans. At Palmeiras, between 2006 and 2007, he returned as a veteran reference for a team that was rebuilding, showing flashes of his old quality, with important goals and a more mature attitude, even without the physical protagonism of the past. At Vasco, he returned in 2008 for his third and final stint at the club where he was a great idol, acting as a leader on and off the field in a season marked by difficulties and the fight against relegation. Despite his effort and a few goals, he was unable to prevent the team from being relegated to Série B and ended his career as a professional player there. In both stints, Edmundo was received warmly by the fans and showed respect for the shirts that made him famous, ending his career as one of the great characters of Brazilian football.
He was a player that possessed a rare technical ability, a goal-scoring instinct, a strong personality and an aggressive and unpredictable style of play. Edmundo built a career marked by ups and downs, but left an indelible mark as an idol in several clubs and as a symbol of an intense and charismatic generation of national football.
