Luc Castaignos was a mobile Dutch striker with good finishing and great potential revealed at a young age, who had a career marked by ups and downs at several European clubs. He emerged as a great prospect in the youth ranks of Feyenoord, where he quickly stood out for his ability to move intelligently, finish with both feet and play both as a center forward and as a second striker. Compared from an early age to idols such as Thierry Henry for his fluid and athletic style, Castaignos attracted international attention and was signed by Inter Milan at a very young age.
In Italy, however, he had few opportunities and ended up returning to the Eredivisie, where he enjoyed his best moment at FC Twente, between 2012 and 2015. At the Enschede club, he showed good presence in the area, speed on the counterattack and an eye for goal, being the team's top scorer for consecutive seasons and regaining some of his confidence as a finisher, despite criticism from the fans for still missing too many chances before scoring. His good performances took him to Eintracht Frankfurt, in the Bundesliga, but once again he was unable to establish himself as a regular starter, facing competition and some injuries.
After that, he played for clubs such as Sporting (Portugal), Vitesse, Gyeongnam FC (South Korea) and other smaller teams in Switzerland and Germany, without recovering the consistency of his time at Twente. He also had a notable stint with the Dutch youth teams, being the top scorer for the under-17 and under-19 teams, but he did not establish himself in the senior team.
