INFO:Ferrante was a sweeper or centre-back. He spent the majority of his career at Fiorentina, playing 237 matches and scoring 6 goals from 1963 to 1972, winning the 1968-69 Serie A. He capped 3 times for Italy between 1970 and 1971. He retired in 1976 after four seasons at Vicenza.
Ferrante is regarded as one of Fiorentina's best ever defenders. Honored by the Italian journalists with the
Giocatore d'oro award as best player at the end of the 1969-70 season, he undoubtedly was the best sweeper in Italy at the time. He was an imposing, strong marker and absolutely reliable leader of the defence. He was unbeatable in the air and his heading ability was a danger in the opposing box too. Memorable is the goal he scored in a 1-1 tie against Sampdoria on 16th March 1969, equalizing with a great header after an imperious leap. A must in the starting eleven since young age, he quickly grew up technically and tactically. He had great consistency and fairness due to which he was never sent off nor disqualified throughout his career. He deserved more consideration for the national team but Pierluigi Cera was always preferred to him, like at the 1970 FIFA World Cup.
