INFO:Longo was a sweeper or defensive midfielder. Grown up at Juventus, he never played in the first team. He spent almost his entire career at Cagliari, playing 242 matches and scoring 2 goals from 1960 to 1969 and being the team captain in the last three seasons. He didn't have the chance to win the
Scudetto with the
Rossoblu because he was sold due to issues with the club's president. He retired a year later after a season at Atalanta.
Longo was a very good defender and a key player for Cagliari during the 1960s. He was gifted with a well-built body and his strength combined with high tenacity made him an unbeatable bulwark in physical duels. The other defenders relied on him. In fact, when they were overcome, Longo was always the last man to challenge. He was fearless and had no problem at covering every possible space or at intercepting shots with his own body. His timing on tackles though was less good because they were often rough, leading the defender to commit several fauls.
