Lorenzi was a centre forward. He spent the majority of his career at Inter, where he made 314 appearances from 1947 to 1958, scoring 143 goals. He played also for Empoli, Alessandria, Brescia and Varese, where he retired in 1960. He was called up for Italy 14 times, scoring 4 goals and taking part to the 1954 FIFA World Cup.
A prolific and deadly striker, Lorenzi was gifted with determination, physical strength despite his short size, great sprint, outstanding sense of scoring and remarkable reaction that allowed him to tap the ball in many times. He was excellent in 1-on-1 situations and in keeping the ball during counter-attacks with his dribbling skills. However, he often preferred passing the ball back to a teammate, usually Nyers, sometimes even reaching the end-line and delivering a cut back pass. His only flaw was his bad attitude that earned him the nickname Veleno, which means "Poison". In fact, he insulted, spitted, hit his opponents or grabbed his marker's groin ─ one of his trademarks. His teammates weren't safe either: when Nyers missed a goal in a match against Fiorentina, Lorenzi punched him in the face, forcing the Hungarian to leave the field. He even kicked a referee during the 1954 FIFA World Cup. Of course, this attitude earned him numerous red cards. The most famous episode though happened probably on October 6, 1957 in the final minutes of a match against Milan: Inter was ahead 1-0 when the Rossoneri were given a penalty at the last minute; all Inter players were protesting except Lorenzi, who reached the bench, where he was given half lemon that he placed on the penalty spot, causing Milan player Cucchiaroni to shoot the ball over the crossbar.
