Jorge Toro was a midfielder who played mostly as attacking midfielder but also on the right side of the midfield. He started his career in Chile at Colo-Colo before joining the Italian team Sampdoria in 1962. He stayed in Liguria for only a season before transferring at Modena where he had his best years. He played six seasons with the yellow-blue between 1963 and 1971 counting 154 matches and 19 goals plus a short spell at Hellas Verona in 1969-70. He came back to Chile playing for Colo-Colo again, Unión Española, Deportes Concepción, Audax Italiano and Deportes La Serena before retiring in 1976. Toro also capped for Chile 29 times and scored 6 goals between 1959 and 1973 also being part of the squad that reached the third place at the 1962 FIFA World Cup. Jorge Toro was considered one of the best Chilean footballers at the time. He's been the first Chilean footballer to play in Italy but at first he seemed to be a player with unconsistent performances, a flop, before having very good seasons at Modena. However he was described as one of the best footballers in the history of Chile, a talented midfielder with excellent technique, a playmaker who mostly used to create scoring situations but also used to score sometimes. Remarkable were his free kicks and the long passes even from long distances, arriving straight to the wingers.
