INFO: Fred Spiksley was a wonderful player with amazing ball control, individuality, courage despite being short and light. He did all his ball work with the outside of the right foot and he could do almost anything he wanted with both feet. Ernest Needham said about him: "he is the finest outside left I've ever met and whose dribbling is a treat to watch; he could combine with the others or make openings by centres or cut past the back on the inside to go for scoring himself; he could also shoot with both feet". Spiksley scored and created, juggled and dribbled his opponents. He could keep the ball close to his feet while dribbling, stopping and starting again incredibly. His shot wasn't hard but surely accurate and thanks to his skills, strong shots were not necessary. He mostly played for Sheffield Wednesday, scoring over 100 goals in more than 300 matches from 1891 to 1903 and scored 7 goals in 7 caps for England between 1893 and 1898.
