Rebonato was a centre forward who had his peak during the 1980s. His professional career started in 1980. He played for Hellas Verona, Rondinella and Cremonese before joining Pescara in 1983. He scored 5 goals in 20 matches in the first season so he was loaned to Campobasso. His scoring rate got worse since he made only 1 goal in 24 games so he came back to Pescara. However this time he scored 8 goals in 34 matches during the 1985-86 season and 21 in 32 during the 1986-87 season becoming Serie B top scorer and one the symbols of Pescara's squad that reached the Serie A promotion. Thanks to his great performances he was bought by Fiorentina but unfortunately he didn't manage to break through Serie A, scoring only 2 goals in 17 matches. He retired in 1992 after spells at Catanzaro and Mantova.
Rebonato was gifted with a strong physique, in fact his playstyle was based on making the final sprint in the area, resisting to the defender's marking, and scoring with an incredible constancy. He was mostly left-footed. In fact during the 1986-87 season he scored only 4 times with the right-foot and once with the head. The remaining goals were 16 left-footed shots, some of them quite powerful. Rebonato's goals with Pescara in 1986-87 season
