INFO:
Spink was a goalkeeper who spent the most of his career for Aston Villa, playing for the team from 1977 to 1996, appearing 460 times and winning the 1981-82 European Cup, the 1983 European Super Cup, the 1994 English Football League Cup. Considered one of the best English goalkeepers around he unfortunately capped for England only once due mostly to the presence of the legendary Peter Shilton. Spink played also for West Bromwich Albion, Millwall, Forest Green Rovers and retired in 2001. The goalkeeper is remembered by Aston Villa's fans not only for his long career at the club but also for having been Jimmy Rimmer's substitute in the 1982 European Cup final when he had an inspired performance that helped Villa win the trophy with many remarkable saves. Spink was a reactive goalkeeper, tall, with a strong physique and gifted with determination and agility despite his imposing size. He went out of the goal very often and was good at covering it. His kick throws were powerful and accurate, often passing the midfield and reaching a teammate. He preferred making short passes using rather the hand than the foot.
