INFO: He was considered a player of great technique and physical strength, starting his career for Coritiba Football Club and soon was hired by Pelé Santos. He also worked for the Porto Alegrense Foot-Ball Grêmio, for which he became Champion Gaucho in 1977, breaking a long fasting tricolor titles, where even today is remembered as a great idol.
In Vila Belmiro, the young Santa Catarina gained experience alongside the legendary Mauro Ramos de Oliveira and other great values; such as Ramos Delgado, Rildo and Joel Camargo.
In Santos, Oberdan won several important titles: São Paulo Championship 1965, 1967, 1968 and 1969, Rio-São Paulo Tournament 1966, Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Tournament 1968, South American Recopa and World Cup Winners, both in 1968.
Between 1973 and 1976, Oberdan alternated consecutive passages between Coritiba and Santos. On November 23, 1973, Oberdan was in Coritiba and gave a special interview to the reporter Hélio Teixeira of Placar magazine.
The title of the article "I knock and they flee" was contested by the defender himself, who stated that he always played hard but never in an unfair way.
For Coritiba, Oberdan won the championship of Paraná and the People's Tournament of 1973. And on the decisive match of the People's Tournament, registered the important participation of Oberdan in the memorable conquest.
In those days, the Internacional's Escurinho striker was an expert on the aerial game. As soon as he landed in Porto Alegre, Oberdan fired: "That's the end of it. The Escurinho will no longer nod in the Grêmio area. "
He decreed and fulfilled. While Oberdan was in the Grêmio, Escurinho did not celebrate more goals of head.
Gaucho champion of 1977, Oberdan made Escurinho leave the "Colorado" in 1978, when the gaucho striker was contracted by Palmeiras.
In the same year of 1978, Oberdan left the grounds definitely. He was coach of Grêmio in 1980, when he counted on the work of the technical assistant Valdir Espinosa, that later would be world-wide champion in Japan.
