M'Boma is a former centre forward. Arguably one of the best strikers in the history of Cameroon, he played for several clubs throughout his career, including Paris Saint-Germain, Châteauroux, Metz, Parma, Sunderland, Al-Ittihad and Vissel Kobe. However, he had his best time at Gamba Osaka, Cagliari and Tokyo Verdy, scoring 33 goals in 40 matches for Gamba between 1997 and 1998, 22 in 47 for the Rossoblu between 1998 and 2000, 24 in 46 for Verdy between 2003 and 2004. He won 57 caps for Cameroon, scoring 33 times.
M'Boma was know for his imposing size and powerful shots, either from short distances or long range. He was fast and gifted with good dribbling despite his heavy body. He was also an able header and effective against goalkeepers in 1-on-1 situations. He could score incredible goals and his most memorable is probably an overhead kick in a friendly match against the World champions France in 1998. He occasionally took penalties and free kicks and proved to have a good passing ability as well as a decent crossing one when he was sporadically used on the left wing.
