Attack MindedINFO:Kinkladze was an attacking midfielder or left winger in midfielder or attack. He played 80 matches and scored 18 goals for Mretebi Tbilisi from 1990 to 1992. He transferred to the more famous team Dinamo Tbilisi, playing 74 games and scoring 42 times in three seasons. In the first half of 1994 he played without success at Saarbrücken and Boca Juniors. He joined Manchester City in 1995: 118 matches and 22 goals in three seasons. After a bad year at Ajax, he played for seasons at Derby County: 100 appearances and 8 goals. He retired in 2006 after spells at Anorthosis and Rubin Kazan. He won 55 caps for Georgia, scoring 9 times.
Regarded as the brightest Georgian talent of the 1990s, Kinkladze was a quick and very agile player, gifted with great dribbling skills, which were a problem for the opposing defenders. He was a good corner taker as well as free kick and penalty taker and had a powerful long range shot: one of his goals came against Swindon Town and was described as a missile from over 30 metres. He scored 7 penalties for Manchester City but stopped taking them after he missed two in a row during the 1997-98 season. Being a fantastic passer, delivering accurate crosses or through balls even between two opponents, his main task was to create goalscoring chances for his teammates but his sidestepping runs with the ball could result in spectacular goals. Kinkladze's biggest problems were related to his lack of defensive prowess: he didn't track back to help defending and couldn't tackle. Moreover, he was accused of a lack of effort. Therefore, he was occasionally used as secondary striker, a position where he had less positional responsibilities. Left-footed, when used on the side he was often positioned on the left flank but he couldn't perform very well there and he himself publicly expressed his dislike for the position.
