Cardozo is the highest scoring foreigner in history of SL Benfica with 172 goals. Prolific striker with powerful left foot shot and excellent heading ability, he started netting goals regularly from the moment he came to Benfica from Newell's. He won several trophies with Benfica including two league titles and he was Portuguese Primeira Liga top scorer twice. He was voted Paraguayan footballer of the year twice. He was lethal from the penalty spot. However, he will be remembered by missing one in WC 2010 quarterfinals against Spain and one in penalty shootout in 2014 Europa League final that Benfica lost to Sevilla.
