Attack MindedINFO:Thomas was a side midfielder or winger. He played mostly for Burnley − a total of 175 matches and 23 goals from 1966 to 1972 − and Queen Park Rangers − 182 league games and 27 goals from 1972 to 1977. He then played for Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Vancouver Whitecaps, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth, where he retired in 1984. He capped 8 times for England.
Thomas was an extremely skillful and fast player. Able to use both feet, he had the ability to push the ball past the defender and run to go either inside or wide. Apparently, he could run from goal to goal in about 10 seconds. His trademark was playing without shin pads (something that wouldn't be allowed today). He was very important for the strikers because he could provide them with outstanding service from the flank. In fact he was a very good deep crosser. When he cut inside though, he often tried to shoot from outside of the penalty area − which explains his good number of goals. He could deliver long range shots, hit like a cannon.
