INFO:Gimona was a versatile player who started his career as inside forward and winger, later becoming a half-back and full-back. His first team was Pro Gorizia where he played from 1940 to 1943. He then spent a season at Ampelea. He signed for Milan in 1945, making 61 appearances and scoring 21 goals in two years. He transferred to Livorno in 1947, playing here until 1949 and again from 1956 to 1958 for a total 114 matches and 6 goals. His next team was Palermo where he had his longest spell from 1949 to 1953, scoring 9 goals in 124 games. He was then turned into a defensive player at Juventus in 1953, making 46 appearances and scoring one goal. He also played for Pro Patria and Empoli where he retired in 1959. He capped for Italy 3 times in 1951-52, scoring 3 goals against USA in a 8-0 win at the 1952 Olympics.
Gimona started at Milan as inside forward and winger on both sides. He was a skilled dribbler and a fast runner off or on the ball. His main tasks were to provide assists or cut inside the box to score after getting past the defenders.
During his time at Livorno and Palermo he was primarily a winger. He was now much less prolific and even more an assist-man. However, Livorno coach Mario Magnozzi noticed Gimona's tendency to the defensive game and started using him as half-back, position where Gimona could take advantage of his pace to anticipate his opponents and recover the ball. He earned his caps for Italy as a Palermo player, but during his time in Sicily, he also risked a life ban following a horrible foul committed on Pesaola that almost ended the career of the Argentinian.
A proper half-back at Juventus, he proved himself capable of playing also as full-back. He did what he could as defender, covering the ground, marking his opponents and clearing the ball. Of course, his speed had decreased by then, which meant that it was more difficult for him to mark fast wingers.
