Lessi was a left-back. His career started and ended at Livorno where he spent the majority of his seasons between Serie B and C, playing from to 1953 to 1955, 1956 to 1960 and 1961 to 1969 for a total 376 appearances and 2 goals. He also played for Pontedera in 1955-56 and Torino in 1960-61.
Lessi was a strong and all-action defender who appeared calm and gentle but in reality was tough like a rock. His defensive ability wasn't too good because his roughness led him to commit many fouls, especially against fast wingers. He though wasn't slow himself as he could manage to reach the ball before his opponent. But when he had to defend one-on-one, he had an easier task against slower and more physical opponents.
