Sverre Brandhaug is maybe the greatest ever Rosenborg playmaker and one of their greatest ever players. He was central midfielder, and a key player in the squad during the eighties. Almost every attacking action came from him. He was renowned for his passing and playmaking ability. His long passes were incredible and he was able to connect his teammate with the goal greatly. He delivered long passes with exceptional speed, while his ground passes were slower and mostly on short distances. He was technically very gifted player for that era in Norwegian football. He was attacking oriented midfielder, creating chances for his teammates and scoring regularly (he was even league top scorer in one season). He was strong and possessed hard shot, and he liked to try long distance shots. He was also remembered as a good set piece taker, being a first choice for free kick or corner taker during his time in Rosenborg. He often delivered one touch passes and he was good at that. He is also remembered as too relaxed player on the pitch, mostly focused on attack. He helped the defense, but only when an opposing player went straight on him, and in those situations, he showed good positioning. But mostly, he stood on the side when opposition attacked, and even when the player is close to him, he wouldn't react and try to take the ball. Also, he was static at the pitch, moving mostly when he had the ball in his possession. He was regular Norwegian international, representing his country in 35 games with some memorable performances against stronger sides, where his class was shown.
