INFORegarded as one of the best and most consistent Italian shot-stoppers of his generation, and as one of Juventus's greatest goalkeepers of all-time, Viola was an efficient and reliable keeper, who was known in particular for his composure in goal, although he also had the ability to produce acrobatic saves when necessary due to his agility and athleticism. Viola was excellent in rushing from the line and closing the strikers, had good speed and positioning. Very calm keeper, never went panic. Had also good power in his drop kicks. Viola, born in 1926 in San Benigno Canavese, twenty kilometers from Turin, he was sent to Serie B in Carrara, after Como, then in Serie A in the Lucchese to gain experience and mature. A twenty-three, returned to Juventus, one that, in 1950, he won the first championship after the fabulous five gold and now remote. He won three league titles with Juventus Juventus (although in the 1957-1958 season has been the subject of Charles Mattrel and has taken the field on one occasion). With 242 games played in the league, is currently the fourth most present history Juventus goalkeeper after Combi, Zoff and Tacconi. Early in his career he played on loan from Juventus, a Serie A season with the Lucchese, with whom he has obtained a remarkable eighth place in the league. He ended the racing career in 1958-1959 with Brescia in Serie B. He has scored 11 international appearances. It was convened in the National at the 1954 World Cup, going down in the field during the play-off against Switzerland in Basel, lost 4-1. National has also participated in the 1956 summer tour in South America by defending the blue door against Argentina and Brazil. Closed competitive activity, he returned to Juventus in the role of coach in the youth sector. Giovanni Viola died on 07/07/2008.
