Defence MindedINFO:Macchi was a striker and midfielder. He played as inside forward in his early career in Siracusa, where he scored 32 goals in 92 matches from 1929 to 1933. He transferred to Genoa, in Serie A, where he backed off from his original position but didn't succeed and played only 16 games in two seasons, scoring twice. In 1935 he joined Siena, where he became a symbol. He played 115 matches − most of them in the first four seasons − in Serie B and Serier C for the
Bianconeri and scored 6 times from 1935 and 1943.
Macchi was gifted with excellent class. He could deliver accurate long passes with his skillful feet, triggering perfect geometries in the air and drawing the play with great tactical sense. This way he opened easiest ways for the forwards. In Siena he had such tactical intelligence that he was like a coach in the field. Whenever he had the ball on his feet, it was sure that the move he would choose to do would be the right one. He was a "metronome"
ante litteram who never wasted a ball.
