Harry Hood was a good player, a versatile forward who was a key player for Celtic in the early 70s. He was capable of playing in all forward positions: his personal preference was in an attacking midfield role but his main time came as a creative forward playing behind the striker and linking the midfield and attack, although he also had success as the main centre forward as he led the Scottish league in scoring in the 70/71 season. Harry was known for his skill with the ball and cool finishing. In a team with skilful players like Jimmy Johnstone and Kenny Dalglish he more than held his own in terms of technique. While not the quickest or most physically imposing player he made up for it with intelligence and ability to find space. He also had pretty good aerial ability and was good with both feet. Also notable were his performances in big games and important occasions, especially against Rangers, against whom he notably scored a hat trick in 1973; Celtic would have to wait until 2016 for another player to score 3 against their biggest rivals. Also notable was a run of 21 goals in the last 15 games to help Celtic win the double in the 1970/71 season. Overall Harry Hood scored 123 goals in 312 games for Celtic and although he was overshadowed by some other legends of the era he was a very good player worthy of standing next to those greats. Incredibly he was never capped for Scotland and is regarded as one of the best Scots to never play for the national team.
