INFO:Castano is a former sweeper, right back and wing half. He spent the majority of his career at Juventus, making 333 appearances from 1958 to 1970, scoring 2 goals. He played also for Legnano, Triestina and Lanerossi Vicenza, where he retired in 1971. He capped for Italy in 7 occasions.
A player gifted with incredible will, Castano never gave up playing, not even when doctors told him not to and was almost always one of the best in all games. He always came back after every injury ─ he suffered many of them to his fragile knees. He was equally a centre back on the right or a sweeper, constantly switching position with Sandro Salvadore in every match. A strong and classic defender, it was hard to beat him unless he faced technical opponents with good dribbling. His challenges were tough but always fair ─ he received only one red card. He was gifted with great tactical sense and was very good in the air, mainly thanks to an outstanding leap ─ one of his two goals was a header. His best quality was probably his interception ability that made him capable to make desperate recoveries or to save the ball before an opponent could hit it even when he was in apparent disadvantage. In addition to this characteristic, he was also good at covering the goal to rejec shots on the line or the spaces while he waited an incoming striker to stop. He possessed solid speed but very rarely pushed forward because it was likely that he wouldn't come back to the defence in time, leaving the other defender to face the attackers alone. One of Juventus' old school defenders with the best technique, he had a fine ball distribution and usually delivered accurate long balls from the back.
